Why You Should Book a Session for Fine Art Photography in Sydney

kids portrait photography

Michelle Young of MY Portraiture is one of Sydney’s premier fine art photographers. Her art is not only to hang on walls or place in frames, (however we certainly encourage that as well), but it has many other benefits and uses.

In this post, we outline the variety of benefits that Michelle’s sessions can provide to any child in Sydney.

Increased Confidence

Each shoot is tailor made to reflect your child’s personality and their interests, which allows Michelle to capture the essence of your child while keeping them comfortable.

Michelle will take the time to sit and chat with your child or children and make them feel as excited and special as we can before the shoot begins.

Michelle goes above and beyond to ensure everyone in her studio is having a positive, fun and relaxing experience on set. Her friendliness and kindness are a great way for your little one to grow their confidence in these settings and hopefully translate them outside the studio.

Exposure to a Studio or Set Environment

For children who have not been in a studio environment before, this can be a daunting task! Children can be intimidated, especially if they have little exposure to studios and sets.

Michelle’s warmth and patience ensures a comfortable and enjoyable experience for each subject, making sure they can be captured in their most natural, stunning state.

A Cherished Family Gift

At the end of any package session, there will be beautiful and unique portraits that have captured your child in a highly stylised but honest form.

By capturing a moment in time, this version of your child will stay celebrated as they were, while you continue to experience the joy of watching them grow.

Why not take these moments and create a treasured gift for yourself or a loved one? MY Portraiture offers fine art prints, printed on the best archival paper, which is ready to frame, as well as acrylic blocks and wall art that is available in traditional, box, acrylic or canvas options.

If you’re after an exceptionally special gift, we offer a beautiful 12-inch hand-crafted book bound in leather or cloth in either 10 or 20 pages. Each page holds one 7x10” print on archival fine art paper.

What to Expect in Your Artistic Portrait Photography Session

kids portrait photography

Looking for artistic photography in Sydney for stunning personal or children portraits? Look no further than MY Portraiture, Sydney’s leading portraiture studio led by renowned Michelle Young.

In this post, we outline what to expect in your child’s artistic portrait photography session.

Artistic Photography Sydney: Before the Session

Once your preferred date and time are booked in, you will have a pre-session consultation with Michelle Young, either by telephone or appointment, to discuss your child or children involved in the shoot. You and Michelle will discuss any special requests, props, clothing and the overall style of the studio session.

Your shoot will be tailor made to reflect your child’s personality and their interests; this allows Michelle to ensure she can capture the essence of your child while keeping them comfortable.

A $500 deposit is required when you book with MY Portraiture to secure your appointment. Deposits are non-refundable, but fully transferable.

One week before your shoot, the balance of your package will also be due.

During the Session

When you arrive at the studio, Michelle will take the time to sit and chat with your child or children. She will take you all through the clothing and styling options she has hand-selected before the pampering starts.

Your child or children will sit with our hair and makeup artists to prepare for the session. It’s our job to make them feel as excited and special as we can before we will begin the shoot.

We generally suggest between three and four hours for a session, this will allow time for your child to feel as comfortable as possible with the camera and to allow Michelle to bring out the most in them.

We prefer not to rush as every session, like every child, is different. This time also allows for different hairstyles and clothing options.

After the Session

Your images will be ready to be viewed two to three weeks from your session date and we will arrange a personal viewing of one to two hours in the studio before printing.

Your images will be carefully curated, prepared and then presented to you at the studio on a variety of hand-crafted black and white and colour options.

Michelle is happy to advise and will guide you through the images and their variations to display them in your home.

Each photograph is then printed on the best archival fine art paper stocks, which are personally sourced by Michelle, and then framed and hand signed.

Contact us today or call Michelle on 0410 541 344 to discuss your child’s portrait session.

Children Portrait Photography: The Start of a Journey

kids portrait photography

Children portrait photography and fine art child photography are a beautiful way to capture your child’s journey, throughout the everchanging landscape of childhood. With Michelle Young’s warm and positive energy here at MY Portraiture, parents can even explore if their children might enjoy a career in acting or modelling.

There are many benefits to fine art child photography beyond receiving a timeless, hand-crafted portrait to hang in your home or keep with you.

Build a Portfolio

Beautiful portraits and headshots are what separates candidates in the acting and modelling industries. Michelle offers truly unique and stunning portraits that capture your child in their truest form.

This is not to say the portraits will be single purpose. Michelle can also capture a multitude of expressions and activities, which could highlight your child’s range, or present them in a different light to their other work or previous portraits.

Exposure to the Industry

Another major benefit of these children portrait studio sessions is to entertain the possibility of beginning your child’s career in acting or modelling, before committing to the lifestyle.

The studio in Sydney is a professional working studio, and as such will be a similar environment to those your child would encounter, should you decide to venture down that path.

Michelle goes above and beyond to ensure everyone in her studio is having a positive, fun and relaxing experience on set. Her friendliness and kindness are a great way for your little one to dip their toes into this world and see if they could be a good fit.

If this is a line of work you and your child wish to pursue, fantastic! The time spent in the studio will be the start of a wonderful journey. If not, you will leave the studio with beautiful portraits of your child which you can proudly display as works of art.

Everything You Need to Know About Fashion Photography

fashion photographer sydney

Michelle Young is a leading editorial photographer in Sydney, with her artistic portrait photography stemming from a career as a fashion photographer.

To understand Michelle’s art and what we do here at MY Portraiture, fashion photography must also be understood. Michelle’s work in artistic portrait photography is so unique because of her distinct eye for beauty, movement and emotion.

The History of Fashion Photography

The earliest known fashion photographs date all the way back to the 1850s in the court of the last French monarch, Napoleon III. Although, photography as an advertising tool wasn’t popularised until fashion itself became widely more accessible in the early 1900s.

Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, the first fashion magazines both founded in the late 1800s, initially featured fashion through hand-drawn illustrations and it was not until 1913 that Vogue hired a photographer to shoot portraits of models, actresses and aristocrats that photographs were used in fashion editorials.

Thanks to photography, during the 1920s and 1930s labels such as Balenciaga and Chanel became known for their distinct styles and photographers began flocking to the fashion centre at the time, Paris.

From here, fashion photography came into itself as an important aspect to fashion. Society changed through the decades, and with it the images people chose to use to represent themselves.

The Purpose of Fashion Photography

The idea behind fashion photography was to create something one-of-a-kind that will grab people’s eye and stay with them.

Fashion photography is the most rapidly evolving genre of photography. It’s always changing, adapting and developing and can only capture a fleeting moment in time, even though it’s one of the most consumed and popular forms of photography.

Fashion photography is all about superb aesthetic sense, to understand every element inside the frame and make a conscious and well thought out choice behind each of them.

Different Types of Fashion Photographer Sydney

Get to Know Us: Michelle Young and Our Artistic Portrait Photography

artistic portrait photography

Michelle Young is one of the leading portrait photographers in Sydney, known for her artistic portrait photography, skills in traditional photography and her love of black and white images. But who is Michelle, and what makes her photography so special?

About Michelle Young

Born and raised in Sydney, Michelle currently resides in the inner west near Camperdown with her family.

Discovering her love of photography in high school, Michelle’s passion for the medium was obvious the second she picked up her first camera. Her work reflected her enthusiasm and was quickly published.

From here, Michelle followed her love for photography to university, where she studied a Bachelor of Visual Communication: Photography and Digital Imaging.

Being successful early in her career across the fashion, interiors and lifestyle photography industries meant Michelle quickly learned that fashion was her central passion in this space.

Michelle became an ambassador for young photographers and assistant for the Advertising Commercial Magazine Photographers over many years, creating workshops, seminars, a register, phone support and exhibitions.

After a short break, she was welcomed back into the world of photography after giving birth to her two beautiful boys and was commissioned to shoot major children’s fashion and advertising campaigns from highly regarded brands.

Now working as one of Sydney’s leading commercial kids’ fashion and lifestyle photographer, Michelle can combine her three loves: photography, fashion and children.

Michelle’s Philosophy for Fine Art Portrait Photography

Each portrait Michelle produces is a unique and hand-crafted piece of art. Michelle captures beautiful, timeless bespoke portraits because she truly believes every one of her subjects is beautiful and should feel that way when captured by her camera.

Inspired by the Old Masters, with their treatment and understanding of the relationship between light and shade in paintings, Michelle is also taken with traditional analogue photography.

The combination of these two eras work together in Michelle’s photographs to make the subjects of her photography come alive in a single frame.

Michelle prides herself on producing art that you would be delighted to hang in your home, and with her, you can always expect professionalism and a memorable experience.
